<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/cvdbout/peerie-flooers" target="_blank">Peerie Flooers Hat </a><br />
I knit the mittens a few months ago now, and the yarn was sitting, waiting patiently to be turned into a hat. I am happy with it - tension a bit off in some places, but it felt good to get it done with!<br />

<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/cvdbout/joris" target="_blank"> Joris</a><br />
I bought this as a kit while I was in Amsterdam - I fell in love with the display model they had and had to have it. It is the first, and probably last toy I will ever knit. It resides on a shelf far away from grubby little fingers and will eventually be moved onto a craft table (whenever I get one...). I love the back of his head, so colourful!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-B3Xp5VuA_BM/UFmvg3aP4VI/AAAAAAAAGLg/zeFkIq04U7I/s1600/SG1S7633.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-B3Xp5VuA_BM/UFmvg3aP4VI/AAAAAAAAGLg/zeFkIq04U7I/s640/SG1S7633.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
I have also been doing some sewing! I've not used my machine for months, but when the urge to sew hit, I went a bit crazy. I have so far sewed 5 box bags, and 4 zip pouches. I am wanting to do more, but need to get more interfacing first!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pk10vrcCyEw/UFmvkffMB7I/AAAAAAAAGL4/e9iVvTBNb6o/s1600/SG1S7636.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-pk10vrcCyEw/UFmvkffMB7I/AAAAAAAAGL4/e9iVvTBNb6o/s640/SG1S7636.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
I am very pleased with them, and I can now sew in a straight line! I made up the pattern for the zip pouch, though I did read a few different ones first but none of them were easy or quick, whereas it takes me 15 minutes to do one, from ironing fabric to closing the zip.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-T3NXPLZxzZQ/UFmvjRaZR9I/AAAAAAAAGLw/cDTABHToL84/s1600/SG1S7635.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-T3NXPLZxzZQ/UFmvjRaZR9I/AAAAAAAAGLw/cDTABHToL84/s640/SG1S7635.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
I cannot remember the pattern I used for the box bag, but I stuck pretty rigidly to it and went from taking 2.5 hours to sew one, to just under an hour!<br />
<br />

This hat is for Jitterbug. The yarn I purchased at Unravel earlier this year, and is lovely!<br />
<br />
Which reminds me - I have yet to show you the acquisitions from my trip to Amsterdam. I bought a lot. 'Nuff said. I bought from two shops, <a href="http://www.penelopecraft.com/" target="_blank">Penelope Craft</a> and <a href="http://weldraad.nl/" target="_blank">Weldraad</a>. My step mother-in-law had emailed me about Weldraad when it first opened, so we visited. The place is amazing - the website says that in the store you will find a collection of yarns, fabrics and buttons which are produced as eco-friendly as possible (it's in Dutch). The man working when we went in knew his stuff. Really knew his stuff - he told us all about the fabrics they sell, all the fibres and yarns. It is a must visit for anyone visiting Amsterdam! Penelope Craft was delightful as usual - very helpful and let me browse in peace! Another must visit, and they also sell yarns that you can't get in the UK (or can't get without going to London). <br />

<br />
Quite a few of my favourite crafts bloggers write about their depression. It always inspires me that they can be so open about it, and I no longer feel the slight embarrassment that comes from having off days.<br />
<br />
I am in the process of switching to my fourth brand of anti-depressant this year. The lull between pills is the hardest part of switching. I have reverted to how I was before - alone. The craving to self-harm is so strong I know I'm going to have to tell Jitterbug; ever-loving patient Jitterbug who doesn't deserve a nutter for a wife. I love Elisa McLaughlins designs! This one initially attracted me because of the smocked side, but when I completed it I decided that it looked too fussy, and so I will be wearing it on the reverse side! It's not as long as pattern dictates, but I'm not a huge fan of slouchy winter hats, and I'd imagine this one will stretch out with use anyway.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Towards the end of the trip, I decided to knit a hat for my sister - she is always asking me to knit things for her, and thought this would make a good get well present. <br />

Project: Cloche Divine<br />
Yarn: Weldraad Alpaca Fino<br />
Notions: 5mm needles<br />
<br />
I love this hat. Probably could have been doing with being knitted on smaller needles and knitting the larger size, which I may well do if I knit one for myself. I am not happy with how the short row pickups look, it looks very clumsy and messy, which I think could have been sorted by knitting at a smaller gauge, but never mind, I am sure she will love it regardless!<br />

The only problem I have with knitting me one is that it doesn't sit too well with my glasses, so I'd need to wear it without glasses, which is guaranteed to freak the children out!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8KwNxBmVC70/UCOjGYl2UxI/AAAAAAAADv8/hMI-EDY3eTs/s1600/SG1S7429.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-8KwNxBmVC70/UCOjGYl2UxI/AAAAAAAADv8/hMI-EDY3eTs/s640/SG1S7429.JPG" width="472" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Over all, very pleased with my two finished objects! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
PS I just noticed I have used the exact same poses in the same order for both these hats! Think I need to work on some new camera angles!</div>

In fact, I have commented to my friend <a href="http://www.craftsfromthecwtch.co.uk/" target="_blank">Sarah </a>that she has too much time on her hands if she can think about knitting toys.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It was with great shock that I then found myself head over heels in love with a toy kit <a href="http://weldraad.nl/" target="_blank">a yarn shop in Amsterdam</a> was selling. The pattern was Joris, and I had seen it in <a href="http://www.penelopecraft.com/" target="_blank">Penelope Craft</a> last year, and thought it was nothing special. In fact, the pattern still is nothing special in my opinion. However, the show model Weldraad had was knit using Aade Long.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://distilleryimage10.s3.amazonaws.com/78d976c2da3e11e191a022000a1e8839_7.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="http://distilleryimage10.s3.amazonaws.com/78d976c2da3e11e191a022000a1e8839_7.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
Both my husband and I decided instantaneously that I would buy the kit, knit the toy and put it on a shelf far from little fingers who don't appreciate hours of work when they see it.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Progress after day 1 is good (3 broken up hours in the afternoon):</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OqQE3ClSn7o/UCJZxs7v4iI/AAAAAAAADuk/xQvX6Y7mBds/s1600/SG1S7418.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-OqQE3ClSn7o/UCJZxs7v4iI/AAAAAAAADuk/xQvX6Y7mBds/s640/SG1S7418.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
Now, as I said at the start of the year when I decided I was going on a yarn diet, there would be a few exceptions, and the trip to Amsterdam was one of them.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The photo coming up is the very definition of blowing the budget. Luckily it was in foreign money so it doesn't feel like I spent a lot (plus the fact I pre-ordered most of it online before I left....)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-e7pLOoA35Dc/UCJb6UnsBbI/AAAAAAAADus/CV7f4xM7g7M/s1600/Yarn.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-e7pLOoA35Dc/UCJb6UnsBbI/AAAAAAAADus/CV7f4xM7g7M/s640/Yarn.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
I do have plans for most of this, so it's certainly not as bad as it seems at first glance! It would also appear I have a bit of a thing for red and turquoise. And white. And grey. Not in this photo is a skein of yellow Alpaca which was knit into a hat for my sister who will be in a back brace for 3 months after shattering 2 vertebrae 2 weeks ago. See! Already using up the stash!!! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I've been really struggling to find interesting books to read recently. Interesting might be the wrong word because I have lot's of interesting books I'd love to read, I just can't get into them. I read the second book in the All Souls Trilogy recently which was really good. I am about halfway through The Historian, but neither of those I absolutely must finish straight away, which is the feeling I usually get when I get into a book (it doesn't help that this is a re-reading of The Historian, so I already know the end!). I think I need to spend an hour in the second hand book shop here and just buy a whole load of random books.</div>
<div>

<br />
First up, <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/gasteropoda" target="_blank">Gasteropoda</a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ro9l2ng55Eg/T_L17g8FPdI/AAAAAAAADl4/jruh4jIzjBM/s1600/SG1S7360.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="534" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Ro9l2ng55Eg/T_L17g8FPdI/AAAAAAAADl4/jruh4jIzjBM/s640/SG1S7360.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
Love the design, but very very tedious! I think these will take me a while! I am knitting these in Schoppel Wolle Zauberball on 2.5mm needles.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cvBM1xPVPf8/T_L18j-dziI/AAAAAAAADmA/P8ANrtduM3M/s1600/SG1S7361.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-cvBM1xPVPf8/T_L18j-dziI/AAAAAAAADmA/P8ANrtduM3M/s640/SG1S7361.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
I do wish red would photograph easier! This a proper red, not pinky red like the photo.<br />
<br />
The pattern in <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/nuvem" target="_blank">Nuvem</a>, and when <a href="http://www.craftsfromthecwtch.co.uk/" target="_blank">Sarah</a> posted on her facebook page about these, I fell in love, so let's blame her for me knitting a laceweight shawl, <a href="http://www.craftsfromthecwtch.co.uk/2012/06/wednesday-knits-books.html" target="_blank">since that seems to be what we're doing these days</a>.<br />
<br />
The yarn is Garnstudio Drops Lace, which is so so soft, and is knit on 3.5mm needles. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://tamisamis.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/work-in-progress-wednesday100.html" target="_blank">Tami is as always hosting WIP Wednesday this week!</a>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1568223754815891643.post-13704625037066332372012-06-22T16:01:00.000+01:002012-06-22T16:01:07.157+01:00FO FridayYet again another week has flown by!<br />
<br />
The project today has stole my heart. I simply cannot stop looking at it. I am in love with it, and with the style it is knit it. If you don't know anything about Bohus knitting, but you like fair isle, you should get a hold of this book, <a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/Poems-Colour-Knitting-Bohus-Tradition/dp/1883010128/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1340376280&sr=8-1" target="_blank">Poems of Colour</a>. I now want to knit my way through most of the hat kits <a href="http://www.solsilke.se/" target="_blank">Solveig</a> (click on Bohus Stickning) puts together!<br />
<br />
On to the main event though. Drum roll please!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hOEpmZyDR4k/T-SEjH7fTJI/AAAAAAAADkw/iqrxVURFuhc/s1600/SG1S7347.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="456" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-hOEpmZyDR4k/T-SEjH7fTJI/AAAAAAAADkw/iqrxVURFuhc/s640/SG1S7347.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
I give you <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/cvdbout/the-wild-apple-hat" target="_blank">Wild Apple</a>.<br />
<br />
I first fell in love with this pattern years ago. How could anyone not love it? My ambition is to knit the sweater, but that is way above my attention-span right now!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wuBoiWQG5ag/T-SEYFQHQHI/AAAAAAAADkY/FvFA5DNEfoo/s1600/SG1S7344.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-wuBoiWQG5ag/T-SEYFQHQHI/AAAAAAAADkY/FvFA5DNEfoo/s640/SG1S7344.JPG" width="598" /></a></div>
There are of course mistakes, but I'm not even going to point them out. That's how much I adore this hat!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oBggrVDe1ik/T-SGQQoPwuI/AAAAAAAADlE/j6tSISKAcmI/s1600/SG1S7342.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-oBggrVDe1ik/T-SGQQoPwuI/AAAAAAAADlE/j6tSISKAcmI/s640/SG1S7342.JPG" width="506" /></a></div>
I knit the second size up I think, casting on 180 stitches on 2mm needles. Holy cow was that daunting! I probably could have been doing with knitting on 1.75mm given my loose knitting, as I knit the size a bit smaller than my head circumference after doing a gauge swatch on the 2mm. Yes, that's right. I totally swatched! I swatched in 4 different sizes!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SKpNGjGPqgs/T-SEj7Y5NYI/AAAAAAAADlA/e3nFLmDGtzY/s1600/SG1S7351.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SKpNGjGPqgs/T-SEj7Y5NYI/AAAAAAAADlA/e3nFLmDGtzY/s640/SG1S7351.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
Trying to capture the magnificent halo given by the merino/angora yarn is pretty impossible, but you can see all the fluffy hairs sticking out here. The yarn is utterly soft and after wearing the hat every evening for a week, just because I needed to wear it, I can confirm it does not itch my head at all.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-v9Ty_u4h6bs/T-SEhnnMZgI/AAAAAAAADko/QLnqigb8xE0/s1600/SG1S7346.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-v9Ty_u4h6bs/T-SEhnnMZgI/AAAAAAAADko/QLnqigb8xE0/s640/SG1S7346.JPG" width="588" /></a></div>
I absolutely adore the shape - I prefer hats to really cover my ears and forehead, and as you can see this hat fits the bill perfectly. There is a garter stitch band that folds up inside the hat which makes it even more snug.<br />
<br />
It is the first hat that my husband has said he is impressed with, and he even looked genuinely excited when I finished it. I had expected it to take me a long time to finish, but it took 12 days in the end.<br />
<br />
Now, what Bohus kit to ask for this year....<br />
<br />
<a href="http://tamisamis.blogspot.co.uk/2012/06/fo-friday-92.html" target="_blank">FO Fridays are hosted by Tami</a>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com11tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1568223754815891643.post-85415578221202242752012-06-13T19:55:00.000+01:002012-06-13T19:55:20.233+01:00WIP Wednesday<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Some readers may remember my mentioning a Bohus hat kit a few months ago. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-owDMRbcZnFI/Twb7RZjJtMI/AAAAAAAAC-M/EcyjwQ0oRAU/s1600/SG1S6871.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-owDMRbcZnFI/Twb7RZjJtMI/AAAAAAAAC-M/EcyjwQ0oRAU/s640/SG1S6871.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I received this kit for my birthday last year, and practised Fair Isle furiously until I felt comfortable with floats and two colours. I finally started this a week or so ago.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tbrzLf-dbo8/T9jgegBDUNI/AAAAAAAADkM/31_30Qg02TY/s1600/SG1S7340.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-tbrzLf-dbo8/T9jgegBDUNI/AAAAAAAADkM/31_30Qg02TY/s640/SG1S7340.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
Bohus is not for the faint hearted - 4 colours in one row in this hat, and that is not the most ever found in Bohus patterns!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-i0hXz00QL30/T9jgcUvLu0I/AAAAAAAADj8/wh7ncqwnXyY/s1600/SG1S7337.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-i0hXz00QL30/T9jgcUvLu0I/AAAAAAAADj8/wh7ncqwnXyY/s640/SG1S7337.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
But look at it. Isn't it just spectacular?<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6lMDjowjJAs/T9jgWu-5csI/AAAAAAAADjk/HbQPT_thH48/s1600/SG1S7334.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6lMDjowjJAs/T9jgWu-5csI/AAAAAAAADjk/HbQPT_thH48/s640/SG1S7334.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
Words fail me when trying to describe it, so I won't.<br />
<br />
I also have another less colourful WIP which has been left sitting unloved since I started the hat.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dPL7sPI_n5g/T9jgZfYSC8I/AAAAAAAADjs/v606JGuQd00/s1600/SG1S7341.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-dPL7sPI_n5g/T9jgZfYSC8I/AAAAAAAADjs/v606JGuQd00/s640/SG1S7341.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>

Finally, a finished object to show!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
A few months ago, I was browsing <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/" target="_blank">ravelry</a> and came across <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/stripe-study-shawl" target="_blank">Stripe Study Shawl</a>, and knew I wanted to knit it. As with so many patterns, I was at a loss to what yarn I could use. Then I saw it. </div>

I bought Kauni 8/2 Effektgarn in EQ, and the solid in undyed (off-white), and in the stash box they sat waiting for the timing to be just right. A knitalong was started in April, and I knew that time had come.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jppTwjVPxXE/T6k4brgvbbI/AAAAAAAADe0/x78k_naP6lQ/s1600/SG1S7318.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="556" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-jppTwjVPxXE/T6k4brgvbbI/AAAAAAAADe0/x78k_naP6lQ/s640/SG1S7318.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
I was sure it would take me a couple of weeks at least to knit such a large shawl, and one which has very little else going on that knit stitch and some increases. Oh, and many many short rows. I'm not the greatest at sticking to boring projects, so it was with great surprise I finished this in a week! I found myself really getting into the groove and zoning in on the knitting, getting faster and faster, eager to get to the next colour, the next white row.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--HSsRdNKKFI/T6k4hYqP87I/AAAAAAAADe8/BasTetf8fpk/s1600/SG1S7320.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/--HSsRdNKKFI/T6k4hYqP87I/AAAAAAAADe8/BasTetf8fpk/s640/SG1S7320.JPG" width="610" /></a></div>
I don't know how many stitches I had before casting off, but it was a lot. Not as many as it should have been as I only did 11 colour stripes - I could tell it was going to be big enough, and didn't want it to be too big.<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-epOQltElr-w/T6k4mOloAzI/AAAAAAAADfE/5oAuvXnLQB4/s1600/SG1S7322.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-epOQltElr-w/T6k4mOloAzI/AAAAAAAADfE/5oAuvXnLQB4/s640/SG1S7322.JPG" width="622" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Excuse the leggings, I had just finished crawling round the floor ;)</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
I won't lie, the border rows were long, however, I kept on knitting just 2 more rows. I don't know how many time's I said I was done only to keep knitting. The border was done over the course of a day (an hour during the day, a couple at night), and I cast-off the next evening. I washed and laid out to dry, no stretching or pinning down required.<br />

Project Page: <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/cvdbout/stripe-study-shawl" target="_blank">Stripe Study Shawl</a><br />
Yarn: Kauni Wool 8/2 Effektgarn EQ and Kauni Wool 8/2 Solid natural.<br />
Needles: 4mm for main section, 5mm for cast-off.<br />
<br />
Isn't it glorious? This is by far the most satisfying knit I've done in a while. I love the mittens I have done recently, but when I can't wear an FO straight away, I temporarily fall out of love with it. This pattern has given me a new appreciation for large shawls, and I'm now kicking myself for not buying more than 1 skein of sock yarn at a time.<br />
<br />
The Kauni was everything I had read. The colour changes were so subtle you didn't realise you were in a new colour until you were there! The yarn was thin and weird looking before washing, but certainly fulled out post-washing when the spinning oils were removed.<br />
<br />
As usual, I am joining in with Tamis Amis on <a href="http://tamisamis.blogspot.co.uk/2012/05/fo-friday-86.html" target="_blank">FO Friday</a>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com9tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1568223754815891643.post-33207258751269101602012-05-08T16:16:00.001+01:002012-05-08T16:16:23.346+01:00Stripe Study Shawl Knitalong - Week 2Sadly, I shall be bowing out of this knitalong rather earlier than I anticipated.<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
However, here is a sneak peak for FO Friday.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZJoxQeM0xAc/T6k4ZS5ecAI/AAAAAAAADes/TJxUkOHc_mU/s1600/SG1S7317.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ZJoxQeM0xAc/T6k4ZS5ecAI/AAAAAAAADes/TJxUkOHc_mU/s640/SG1S7317.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>

<br /></div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1568223754815891643.post-79209732351856292652012-05-01T14:25:00.001+01:002012-05-01T14:25:10.609+01:00Stripe Study Shawl Knitalong - Week 1First off, I must apologise for the blog silence! I won't give excuses, but I hope I can post more often than I have been recently (I should also really update on my yarn diet fail!).<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I started this knitalong 2 days ago, and I am loving my yarn choices! For the <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/stripe-study-shawl" target="_blank">Stripe Study Shawl</a>, I chose to use Kauni EQ and undyed for the main colour.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pV2iS3_Mkj4/T5_hQD-zu2I/AAAAAAAADdo/r9Zhri_0Tfw/s1600/SG1S7314.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-pV2iS3_Mkj4/T5_hQD-zu2I/AAAAAAAADdo/r9Zhri_0Tfw/s640/SG1S7314.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
I am not usually a fan of such glaring use of colour, and I actually chose the project before I bought the yarn having fallen in love with similar projects on ravelry! Since then, it has been sitting in my yarn box waiting for the perfect moment to start, and what better moment than now?</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_0nf3mcCjQM/T5_hOq8iCxI/AAAAAAAADdg/bhvMQAzHEOU/s1600/SG1S7313.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-_0nf3mcCjQM/T5_hOq8iCxI/AAAAAAAADdg/bhvMQAzHEOU/s640/SG1S7313.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
As you can see, I'm on the 5th CC row. The colour changes are so indistinct that they really do sneak up on you! I cannot wait to see how this turns out! It's already looking quite big, and I probably could have gone down a needle size as it's looking quite lacy, but from what I've read Kauni really fulls out when it's been washed.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.misadventuresincraft.com/2012/05/stripe-study-shawl-kal-update-3.html" target="_blank">Misadventures in Craft</a> has a Mr Linky, so if you want to see some more Stripe Study Shawls being made head over to her blog.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1568223754815891643.post-54188742974842624302012-03-25T12:41:00.000+01:002012-03-25T12:41:00.162+01:00In which there was very little progress<a href="http://sandra-cherryheart.blogspot.com/p/pch.html" style="clear: left; display: inline !important; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: justify;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-F0vddFdX8Ls/TxSoW2CiPPI/AAAAAAAABEg/N-ke657Qj_o/s1600/MakingPCH200.jpg" width="200" /></a>I am very disappointed to say I have very little real progress with this. We had an urgent and expensive car repair which, as they do, came out of the blue, meaning our tiling and painting plans for the kitchen have had to be put on hold for a while.<br />
<br />
Just before this however, I found the two most amazing chairs in our local charity shop. I had been wanting some comfy chairs for our conservatory for a while, and when I saw these I knew they were the ones. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tZp4p7IB8-M/T22-m6xP_9I/AAAAAAAADW8/ghZPMC6XxbM/s1600/IMAG1117.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tZp4p7IB8-M/T22-m6xP_9I/AAAAAAAADW8/ghZPMC6XxbM/s640/IMAG1117.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QQwbX43LKlg/T22-ls_DLkI/AAAAAAAADW0/Iwi6Wo-YluM/s1600/IMAG1116.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-QQwbX43LKlg/T22-ls_DLkI/AAAAAAAADW0/Iwi6Wo-YluM/s640/IMAG1116.jpg" width="360" /></a></div>
The first one is an Ikea Poang chair and footstool. Jittterbug has been wanting one of these for as long as I've known him, and I always said 'when we have money we can buy two for the conservatory'. You can imagine my delight when I found these for a fraction of the retail price! The second is a stunning old nursing chair. It is huge, and considering it is wooden is very very comfortable! I need a small foot stool for this, but Jitterbug can make one at some point.<br />
<br />
And you see that little basket next to the Poang chair? I bought that last weekend at a place called <a href="http://www.thecornstorepulborough.co.uk/" target="_blank">The Corn Store.</a> I initially read about it on Sarahs (<a href="http://www.thecornstorepulborough.co.uk/" target="_blank">Craft from the Cwtch</a>'s) blog, so I took myself and a friend down to see what it was all about, and it was mind-blowing! I think we will all be going at some point in the future together for some looking, touching, buying and tea-drinking! Anyway, the basket will hold yarn eventually :D<br />
<br />
Our conservatory is no longer a place we do not enter. It is a comfortable room with some toys and in which we can all relax. All we need is blinds and some paint and I am positive this room will become one of our favourites in the summer!<br />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1568223754815891643.post-68586654558719236462012-03-24T12:46:00.001+00:002012-03-24T12:46:43.754+00:00A Perfect Saturday<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

For any doubters, these really more stunning in real life! Finished in time for spring, I plan on knitting the matching hat over the summer. The yarn used, Rowan Fine Tweed, is gorgeous. It feels rustic and coarse, but is perfect!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I did a couple of mods from the pattern. Nothing huge, but reduced the length of the cuff by 4 rows and only did 5 full flower repeats on the mitten body. These fit perfectly (like a glove, you could say ;) ), and feel incredibly warm. It was also the first time I did an i-cord bind-off and accidentally used the smaller needles for it. It looks good to me, but not perfect, but I am still more than happy with them.<br />

My tension is pretty good, with the exception of one area - the thumb gusset. You can see here the pale blue is being pulled into the gusset. No matter how much I tried to fix it or loosen it off, it would pull, and appears in both mittens. I'm hoping it will ease off with use, but really it is such a minor thing I am not bothered by it much.<br />

I am using Garnstudio Drops Alaska in a really nice dusty turquoise colour, and the thrums are some wool top I had, very very soft.<br />

I knit these <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/cvdbout/wrist-warmers" target="_blank">wrist warmers</a> in the wee hours before we left to go to Scotland a few weeks ago. I needed something that would be quick, and these fit the bill perfectly.<br />
<br />
Pattern (HA!) is made-up, but is just a tube of stockinette. I really love the look of the rolled down edges which is why I never put ribbing in. They are very warm and fill the gap between my coat sleeve nicely hen it is not cold enough for gloves or mittens.<br />

I used Garnstudio Drops Alaska, about 80% of one ball.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1568223754815891643.post-5521522900875405182012-03-01T12:29:00.000+00:002012-03-01T12:29:00.102+00:00Unravel 2012Last year, prior to my knitting comeback, I attended Unravel. I seem to recall wanting to knit more, which is why I went - to see if I could reignite my passion. It worked, clearly, so when I went this year, it was so much more exciting than last year. I actually had an idea in my head of what I could do with certain yarns.<br />
<br />
I know, I know - I am on a stash diet. However, I was very well behaved, and stayed within my budget. I went with a list, and did not veer from it.<br />
<br />
I don't have a picture of everything together, because my mind just does not roll that way (and I didn't even think of it until it was all put away!), so you'll have to cope with huge photos!<br />

Missing - 3 little sheep cards, 2 needles both 40cm long in 2mm and 2.25mm.<br />
<br />
The fibre I will obviously spin with at some point, but the yarn was bought with come special projects in mind. They won't be made until later in the year but they will be gorgeous! The needles I needed for my Bohus hat which I will be starting this weekend possibly!!!<br />
<br />
I loved Unravel, and will probably attend every single year and go with some healthy pocket money - had we not had 4 tyres to replace on the car the week prior I probably would have spent more, but next year I won't be on a diet and we'll hopefully not have to buy 4 tyres the week before ;)Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1568223754815891643.post-13105608715058727172012-02-29T12:20:00.001+00:002012-02-29T12:20:13.183+00:00WIP Wednesday {} Yarn AlongThis week I have something amazingly pretty to show you! I have lusted after these since <a href="http://textisles.com/" target="_blank">Kate Davies</a> first posted them on her blog - I am a huge fan of her patterns and to be fair, there aren't many I don't lust after! I had hoped to start these last month, but got sidetracked, and now the weather has perked up I probably won't be able to use them until this winter!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lTQsgyTc2pE/T04Uq-i5cSI/AAAAAAAADSs/66D8BVaUKZs/s1600/SG1S7269.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-lTQsgyTc2pE/T04Uq-i5cSI/AAAAAAAADSs/66D8BVaUKZs/s640/SG1S7269.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/peerie-flooers-mittens" target="_blank">Peerie Flooers Mittens</a> by Kate Davies<br />
Yarn as recommended, a variety of colours of Rowan Fine Tweed.<br />
Needles 3.25mm for cuff, 2.5mm for body.<br />
I have modified these to fit my alarmingly small hands - I missed 2 pattern repeats before decreasing, and while my fingers do touch the very end, to have knit an extra repeat would have made them much too big.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3GPTYxoRW90/T04UsKlyDZI/AAAAAAAADS0/RL2zadw5CQU/s1600/SG1S7270.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="528" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-3GPTYxoRW90/T04UsKlyDZI/AAAAAAAADS0/RL2zadw5CQU/s640/SG1S7270.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
I love the line between the decreasing point - I guess it's there to carry the yarn round but it also looks so amazingly beautiful. You wouldn't see it if you weren't looking for it!<br />

The thumb gusset isn't perfect, the floats are pulled a bit tight and as such the thumb is a little tight, but I'll know for sure later today when I finish this mitten!</div>

<div>
On my kindle I am still ploughing my way through the Outlander series - <i> </i>I am on book 5, The Fiery Cross, and it still holds my attention and distracts me from everything else. What an amazing book series, and would heartily recommend it to anyone! It still causes me to come out with random Scots words I no longer use, and has also brought some Gaelic back to me (not much though!!!). I cannot wait to see where this series goes.</div>

Mainly because life has been busy and hectic, but also because I'm not really working on anything!<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Last week was half term here, and we spent the weekend before in Scotland - Rich Robinson was playing a small venue in Glasgow that Jitterbug had never been in, so we drove up for a long weekend. When we got back, I just wasn't feeling myself, but then I haven't been for a while. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I have lot's of trouble sleeping (being asleep by 3.30am is great for me, and Jitterbug and I both get very excited when I sleep before 2am. Last night a combination of restless legs and insomnia meant I was awake until 5am), and there is always a feeling in the pit of my stomach that something really really bad is going to happen, but a quick trip to the doctors and I'm confident I'll start feeling better soon.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
We didn't do much last week, the children and I played at home, visited some friends and had some friends over, and for once Bubba was in a pretty good mood all week! It was back to business as usual today though, which I'm glad about as I have pulled a few (lots) muscles in my back and found it very hard to play yesterday - one child is a breeze, 2 children is challenging when you can't really move. I really hope it's better by Sunday as I am driving to Unravel - not sure what we'll do if it's not, but there's no way I can drive for an hour with the pain I have at the moment.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Where knitting is concerned, I am finishing off <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/projects/another/pepita" target="_blank">Pepita</a> for a friend - she has been so so ill with her pregnancy, so asked me to finish this for her. How could I say no? I am almost finished, just half a leg to go then ends to weave in.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I can't wait to get Pepita done so I can start on <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/peerie-flooers-mittens" target="_blank">Peerie Flooers Mittens</a>, because after I have finished them I will be knitting my Wild Apple Bohus hat kit!!!!! I have swatched (yes, swatched!!) and read the pattern, read ravelry for things I wasn't sure about, I only need to buy the needles in 40cm now!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
In other news, Jitterbug and I figured out how to get 4 double bedrooms in our house - we currently have 3 doubles and a box room, the box room being Gremlins room. We have been thinking for months now how to get her a bigger room for when she is older (the 3rd double bedroom is our spare room, which we need for family when they visit), and we came up with an amazing plan that will also give us an ensuite without having to extend our house, meaning Jitterbug and I can do most of the work ourselves (partition walls, hanging doors, knocking down walls, installing shower, sink and toilet, ripping up floors etc etc) - the most expensive part of the project will be the buying of a new boiler (it is a long complicated explanation which I shall go into at some future date). We are both so excited about it and can't wait to have the money to actually do it!</div>Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1568223754815891643.post-48975864064508948222012-02-13T14:22:00.000+00:002012-02-13T14:22:00.512+00:00Stash Diet Review: Rowan Fine TweedRowan Fine Tweed has only been in my stash a few weeks. It was bought with 1 purpose only - Peerie Flooers <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/peerie-flooers-mittens" target="_blank">Mittens</a> and <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/peerie-flooers" target="_blank">Hat</a>. I fell head over heels in love with these patterns form the moment I saw them.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uVQkar2XgcQ/TzPSr_u9MCI/AAAAAAAADP8/d6tCK6Be4s0/s1600/SG1S7242.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-uVQkar2XgcQ/TzPSr_u9MCI/AAAAAAAADP8/d6tCK6Be4s0/s640/SG1S7242.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
I'm not usually a fan of tweed yarns, but when I looked through the projects and saw the mittens and hats done in solid yarns, they just didn't have the same effect on me. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vqHC4l1H7GY/TzPStpfnSHI/AAAAAAAADQE/MdwB_kregOI/s1600/SG1S7243.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vqHC4l1H7GY/TzPStpfnSHI/AAAAAAAADQE/MdwB_kregOI/s640/SG1S7243.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
The colours are gorgeous. The yarn is not rough, but not soft.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z69ewpO1fv8/TzPSxvojANI/AAAAAAAADQc/FXyrl2dVl2Y/s1600/SG1S7248.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-z69ewpO1fv8/TzPSxvojANI/AAAAAAAADQc/FXyrl2dVl2Y/s640/SG1S7248.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
I especially love the red and yellow colours, but then I love red anyway, and something about certain shades of yellow gets me thinking maybe I *do* like yellow afterall.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xZ5r0N72mLM/TzPSzFQH02I/AAAAAAAADQk/SPnFi3WEVHw/s1600/SG1S7250.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-xZ5r0N72mLM/TzPSzFQH02I/AAAAAAAADQk/SPnFi3WEVHw/s640/SG1S7250.JPG" width="640" /></a></div>
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Gic6pHHR_Xo/TzPS0cMaaUI/AAAAAAAADQs/4YLzVAu_LDU/s1600/SG1S7251.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Gic6pHHR_Xo/TzPS0cMaaUI/AAAAAAAADQs/4YLzVAu_LDU/s640/SG1S7251.JPG" width="640" /></a><br />
The tweed effects is most obvious in the dark green and yellow, with orange, yellow and green flecks being seen quite strongly in the yarn. <br />
<br />
I'm going to be starting Peerie Flooer Mittens very very soon as part of my build-up to the Bohus hat kit, and I really cannot wait to use these colours and watch the mittens develop!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1568223754815891643.post-29727767112754075662012-02-12T14:12:00.000+00:002012-02-12T14:12:00.265+00:00A Month of Craft Photos: Day 12<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-U4AB2nT1Twk/TyqnhHIWuJI/AAAAAAAADM4/N4w_rdW2PzU/s1600/Desktop5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-U4AB2nT1Twk/TyqnhHIWuJI/AAAAAAAADM4/N4w_rdW2PzU/s640/Desktop5.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
I cleaned my oven last week. It was task that I had been putting off, for only one reason. My husband. Jitterbug said last summer he would clean the oven, and I very patiently waited for him until i could wait no more.<br />
<br />
I took the glass off the front and scrubbed off 3 years caked on grease. I use a pumice stone, and even though that leaves very faint scratches, it's quick and easy. I also soak the grease in bicarbonate soda paste to soften it - this works great for the floor of an oven, but did very little for caked on grease.<br />
<br />
The inside could have used more work, but I really am leaving that job for Jitterbug!<br />
